Notices to Mariners Week 36-37
1. ENGLAND – South East Coast – Depths. – It is not frequent that we get a reduction of depth in the Dover Straits: One reduction just to the north-east of the tail of the Varne Bank. At over 18m, this will not hinder leisure craft.
2. ENGLAND – East Coast – Depths. – Four changes of depths in the River Thames, first two in the Blackwall Reach off Saunders Ness, the second pair in Bugsby’ Reach off Blackwall Point.
3. ENGLAND – East Coast – Depths. – Two changes of depth in the River Thames on the edge of the Yantlet Secondary Channel off Shell haven. Not likely to hinder leisure craft – and shouldn’t be that side either!
4. ENGLAND – South East Coast – Drying height. Depth. Drying contour. – This new drying height in the Outer Harbour of Ramsgate has already been notified vide NtM 4441 in Week 35. This is to ‘catch-up’ the change of Panel C of Chart 1827.
5. ENGLAND – South East Coast – Wreck. – A wreck on the end of the SW tail of the Varne Bank in the Dover Straits. Not likely to hinder leisure craft.
1. ENGLAND – East Coast – Wreck. – This was reported in NtM 4174 and this is for Chart 1607 (which I had just bought!) which was not then included as the chart was just being published a new edition. This is about a new wreck off the north-west corner of the Thanet Wind Farm. At over 17m, this will not hinder leisure craft.
2. FRANCE – North Coast – NM Block. – New UK block regarding the environs of the Calais Approach cardinal buoy. I can’t see what the change is/was.
3. ENGLAND – East Coast – Drying heights. – Six ‘enlarged’ drying heights in and about Leigh Creek. See the image showing the locations at http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page9.html
4. ENGLAND – East Coast – Depths. – One reduced depth in the River Thames just east of Tilburyness. At over 6m unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
5. ENGLAND – East Coast – Depths. – Three reduced depths in the middle of the Deep Water channel in the Knock John. In the middle we would hardly be there and at over 14m unlikely to hinder leisure craft!
6. ENGLAND – East Coast – Obstructions. – This is the deletion of ten obstructions at 28m or more: so this will not have been shown on yachting charts. The image shows the locations of the deletions.
1. GRAVESEND REACH LOWER – SPECIAL MARK MISSING GROYNE NO. 2 – The special mark and associated post marking the northern limit of Groyne No. 2 has collapsed and is no longer visible at high water. Navigation in the area should be carried out with extreme caution. Repairs will be carried out at the earliest opportunity. Image can be seen in the Temporary List of the above quoted web page.
2. SOUTHEND DEEP WATER ANCHORAGES & LEIGH SMALL SHIP ANCHORAGE – CURRENT MONITORING EQUIPMENT – During the week commencing 26th August 2019 current monitoring equipment will be deployed in the Leigh Small Ship Anchorage and in the vicinity of the Southend Deep Water Anchorages. See the images on the above quoted web page. The current monitoring devices will be deployed in the positions shown in the images for a period of 35 days. Deployment and recovery will be carried out by the vessel PUNISHER which will be restricted in its ability manoeuvre. A 500m exclusion will be in place around the vessel whilst deployment and recovery operations are underway. Deployment of each monitoring device will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes. Once in position there will be a 100m exclusion zone around each device, which will be passively monitored by London VTS. The current monitoring equipment will stand up to one and a half metres above the river bed and will not be marked with surface markers.
3. CHANGES TO NAVIGATION MARKS within the Medway and adjacent creeks. The following Navigation Marks have been discontinued: Aid: N05625 Rainham Creek Inner Can Buoy; Unlighted Buoy | Can R – Latitude : 051 ° 22.929 N – Longitude: 000 ° 36.623 E Location: River Medway – Rainham Creek: Aid: N05624 Rainham Creek Outer Can Buoy: Unlighted Buoy | Can R – Latitude : 051 ° 23.006 N Longitude: 000 ° 36.789 E Location: River Medway – Rainham Creek.
4. Outer Crouch No 2 Lighted Buoy – River Crouch – is back in operation.
5. No 15 Fairway Lighted Buoy – River Crouch – in position: 51˚ 37.569’N 000˚ 47.298’E is unlit.

8. Blakeney Harbour: Mariners should note the following: HARBOUR ENTRANCE STARBOARD BUOY NO: 1 has been repositioned as follows: N 52° 58.846’ E 000° 58.323’. The light sequence for the above buoy has been altered as follows: FlG(5s). The temporary green buff buoy positioned close to Harbour Entrance Buoy No. 1 has been removed. To enter the harbour, vessels should proceed from the Fairway Buoy SSE to Harbour Entrance Buoy No. 1, leaving this buoy close to starboard before turning SW to Harbour Entrance Buoy No. 2 and onwards following the buoys into the harbour.
