A detailed sonar survey of the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery will be taking place starting from around 1st August until 4th September. Expect to see the survey vessel within the exclusion zone and keep well clear due to it being restricted in its ability to manoeuvre during survey operations.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that EGS International Ltd. will be undertaking, on behalf of the MCA and Receiver of Wreck, a detailed sonar survey of the SS Richard Montgomery wreck and have obtained permission to enter the prohibited area.   

Marine operations will be running from around the 1st August 2019 with expected completion by the 4th September 2019 (weather dependant). All survey work will be carried out by the EGS Watchful (callsign MAQK4; MMSI 232006596; fitted with AIS Class A) who will be keeping a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 & 74

“Watchful” will undertake a comprehensive survey of the entire wreck and the seabed within the survey area defined as a polygon bounded by the following coordinates:

51˚ 27.75604′ N 000˚ 46.71516′ E

51˚ 28.254 09 N 000˚ 46.75512′ E

51˚ 28.23601′ N 000˚ 47.47680′ E

51 ˚ 27.73201′ N 000˚ 47.43138′ E  

Please, be advised that during survey operations the vessel will be restricted in it’s ability to manoeuvre, and other vessels are requested to be mindful of the nature of the works, their wash when passing and to maintain an appropriate safe distance.

During survey operations the vessel will display the appropriate day shapes/signals and lights as required by the IRPCS
